Learning disability day services are provided by the council's Department of Adult Services. The service also caters for the needs of people with complex needs. There are three main centres in the borough (Amberswood, Mayfield and Broadmead) and eighteen smaller community (satellite) bases.
Wheelchair dance sessions are now being run every Thursday morning at Mayfield Day Centre. Please contact the Active Living Team for more information. |

Pub Nights Want to go out to the pub and have a drink with other people with learning disabilities? Fancy a chat over a few beers (or a soft drink if you're teetotal)? Then why not come to the monthly pub nights courtesy of Wigan & Leigh People First.

Ever fancied joining a singing group? Well, have we got the ideal thing for you! People First are holding their first Song Night, hoping to form a community choir. Come along and sing to your heart's content! Talent is entirely optional! The first meeting will be on Thursday 30th June at the People First office. Every first Tuesday of the month you can strut your stuff along with other people with learning disabilties at Reflex Nightclub, King Street, Wigan from 7pm-10.30pm, courtesy of the Active Living team. Tickets are £3.00 each (or £1.50 each if you have a Respect Reflex Membership) and must be bought in advance. For more information contact Emma Moran, Karen Hall or Rob Street at the Active Living Team on (01942) 828521 Next nights are: Tuesday 5th July - Beach Night Tuesday 2nd August - Party Night Tuesday 6th September - Sports Stars To celebrate the London 2012 Olympics, the Let's Get Active team will be hosting their own Mini-Games Sporting Extravaganza on Wednesday 20th July 2011 at Leigh Harriers Athletics Track, complete with an Opening Ceremony, Athletics, Dance, Football and Cycling. Takes place every Friday at Newton-le-Willows Girls & Boys Club, Haydock Street (near the market), and is open to anyone with a learning disability. Activities include arts, discussion, games, drama and more. A few trips are planned as well. Every Friday 10am - 3pm. £2.00 per session. For more details, ring 01744 613853. For the past six years, CRIS have delivered creative projects in Salford, Manchester and Wigan, specialising in film, music or theatre. Their aim is to involve young people aged between 16-19 years old who have learning disabilities, young offenders and young people not in employment, education or training. As an Open College Network centre, CRIS delivers accredited projects that develop both technical skills and other skills that could be used elsewhere such as team-working, problem solving, improved communication and confidence.
